HAMBURG POLICE
NAZI MEMBERS PURGED
BERLIN, December 19
Sixty-three members of the Hamburg police force, including 12 officers and 32 senior n.c.o.s, have been dismissed during the past few days because they were previously connected with the Nazi Party. The vacancies will be filled by promoting existing members of the force who-have clean records and installing policemen trained in schools supervised by British police officers.
Berlin's crime record has improved rapidly since the summer. There were only 56 murders in November, compared with 123 in July. The cases of rape which were reported declined from 598 in July to eight in November.
Theft, particularly armed robberies, however, has increased. Large-scale looting has declined considerably.
