MORALE OF FIGHTING MEN

Although it was the men on active service who won wars, a home front was of great importance, and an integral part of that home front was the organisation that had existed through the war years to put into effect the contributions made by the public to provide comforts and amenities for the men and women of the fighting services and so assist in maintaining their morale, said the deputy-chairman of the National Patriotic Fund Board, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., yesterday. He was speaking to members of the board's office staff, on whom he called with two other board members, to express the thanks of the board for their work. Mr. Perry said that when the board was formed no one thought that they would see six Christmases come and go. The staff had worked loyally and efficiently and had ably supported the secretary, Mr. G. A. Hayden. They had had' a close association with the war effort and it must be a source of satisfaction to them to know that they had helped in the general movement to see that the men and women of the fighting forces were provided with comforts and amenities. The board congratulated them on their work and desired to thank them for their loyal service.

Mr. E. E. Brooking and Mr. L. O. H. Tripp, two other members of the board, also added their congratulations to the staff, Mr. Brooking referring particularly to the success that had been achieved in procuring goods for the troops on a short market and the way those goods had been handled by the store staff.
