LEVY ON GERMANS
CLOTHES AND BLANKETS
' LONDON, September 30. The British occupation authorities in Germany have imposed a levy on German civilians for blankets, clothing, and shoes for slave workers and demobilised soldiers. It is expected that 1,000,000 blankets will be collected in the Rhine and Ruhr districts. Medical authorities fear epidemics if warm clothing is short.
In the Russian zone of Germany, Marshal Zhukov has ordered plans to be made for the registering of all working Germans and those who are fit to work but who are not working at present. The issue of ration cards will provide the basis of registration, and anybody who does not register will not get a ration card.
