SYDNEY, September 6. At the end of the third round of the Australian chess championship, C. J. S. Purdy is leading with three straight wins, followed by R. G. Wade, the New Zealand champion, with 2£. Wade cleverly demonstrated the superiority of two bishops against bishop and knight in his game with F. L. Vaughan, New South Wales. He won the exchange by neat combination and succeeded in overcoming his opponent's stubborn defence. i Wade was unable 19 make good, his i two-pawn advantage in his adjourned game against the Victorian champion, jS. Lazare, and the game was drawn Jn 80 moves. .
