RETURNED MEN
FUTURE INCOME TAX
I The suggestion that returned servicemen should be exempt from income tax for one or two years was made by Mr. T. C. Webb (National, Kaipara) in the House of Representatives last night. He was speaking in the second reading debate of the Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill. The men andi women who had served were worthy i of such a concession, he said. They would have a hard enough time on demobilisation. They would have difficulty in finding houses, and when they did find accommodation they would be put to considerable expense. He did not think the cost of the concession would be great, but it would be a fine gesture and exemption from income tax for a few years was giving to the returning men and women no more than was due to them. ' Mr. A. S. Richards. ("Government, Roskill): Vote-catching, I think. Mr. Webb: The member for Roskill judges other people by himself.
