WELLINGTON MARKET
An assurance that no eggs were held in cool store in Wellington was given by the Minister of Marketing (Mr. Roberts) in the, House of Representatives yesterday, in reply to an urgent question by Mr. W. A. Sheat (National, Patea). The Minister gave details of the quantities of eggs placed on the Wellington market in the weeks ended August 24 and 31 and September 4, these being 80,000 dozen, 68,000 dozen, and 68,000 dozen respectively. The Minister added that those quantities had been sufficient to meet all priority needs and an additional three eggs a ration book weekly over that period. Some retailers had found the quantity was more than sufficient for their consumer demand, and other retailers had been given extra quantities on request. The maximum normal consumption in Wellington was 64,000 dozen eggs a week. The Wellington egg floor had returned all empty crates to the Wanganui egg floor received prior to August 29. Since that date only 51 crates of eggs had been received from the Wanganui floor. Therefore there was no anomalous position to be rectified as suggested by Mr. Sheat in his question,
