Sir, —It seems one can get an answer to one's problems more quickly from the Press than from a Government Department. My wife is a semi-invalid; there is a little girl of 21 months. Doctor's instructions are for my wife to stay in bed as much as possible. Hired help is not possible on worker's wages, and friends and relations, though willing, cannot be imposed upon. Is there any provision, under State or Plunket Society, whereby a mother can obtain assistance at little or no cost? —I am, etc.,
