SUNK BY OWN TORPEDO

GUAM, September 5. The United States submarine Tang was the victim of one of the freaks of the Pacific war. She was sunk by her own torpedo, which "boomeranged," according to one of the survivors. The Tang was surik on October, 20, 1944, between Formosa and China, after sinking six ships of a Japanese convoy and preparing for more kills. The fatal torpedo was aimed at a ship in the convoy, but made a circular movement and hit the stern of the Tang. Only nine survived of a crew of 85.
