ON WANGANUI COURSE

SPRING MEETING

SPLENDID FIELDS CARDED

Two race meetings will be held tomorrow, the Wanganui Jockey Club on its home course and the Avondale Jockey Club ? on the Ellersiie course, its own property not yet having been returned to normal after being in the hands of the military. During the war years the Wanganui club also raced away from home, but it returned to its own course last spring. Prior to doing so certain alterations were made to the track, the straight being lengthened and the bends improved. Today it provides excellent racing conditions, and it has the advantage of having a sandy subsoil. Consequently, despite the rain of last weekend, it promises to be in first-class order. The fields at Wanganui are excel-' lent; indeed, there is every prospect of at least two of the events being run in divisions^ Another generation of racehorses will make an appearance at the meeting in the Debutant Stakes, and a good deal of interest will centre in their efforts. They are not the only recent additions to. the ranks, for included in the fields are many horses who are returning to racing' after spells from the active ranks. As a result; there is a possibility of form being a trifle uncertain. Betting will be under the single-pool system. Horses likely to come into favour are:— Debutant Stakes.—All Bay, Julius Caesar-Rosswood bracket. Kirstymac. Okehu Hack Hurdles.—Peter's Choice, Peach King, Kiwi Pai.
