OLD COMRADES
GEN. FREYBERG'S TRIBUTE
Tribute to those New Zealanders who fought in the early days of the Middle East campaign is paid by General Sir Bernard Freyberg in a message to, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser). "Your message of congratulations to the Division on completion of the war has been published to all ranks in Italy and in the United Kingdom, and has been read by us all with deep satisfaction," says General Freyberg.
"At this moment of victory, our thoughts turn to those who fought the enemy in the early days of Greece and Crete and the Western Desert. Their contribution was indeed a great one. There are few of them still with the Division, and I should like to send our old comrades now in New Zealand a message of congratulation for the part they played so gallantly m the early days.
"May I, on behalf of the 2nd New Zealand Division, thank you for your generous message.1'
