WELLNGTON TITLES
Displaying superior all-round ability oa attack and defence, E. Boniface won the men's singles championship in the Wellington Table Tennis Association's annual tournament, which was concluded tills week. Boniface had won previously in 1940 and 1941. Mi-ss J. Strange, N"ew Zealand University champion, won the women's singles title. t Results were:—Men's singles.—Semi-ffnals: " E. Boniface beat J. Crossley, 21-13, 21-14, 21-10; W. H. Raven beat D. L. Hurdley, 21-IS, ■21-IS, 21-18. Final: E. Boniface beat W. H. Raven, 21-16, 21-13, 21-15. Men's doubles: E. Boniface and G. Smith beat L. Howe and J. Knowsley, 21-18, 21-14, 21-12. Women's, singles: Miss J. Strange beat Miss D. Croxton, - 20-22, 21-IS, 25-23. Women's doubles: Mrs. M. Haynes and Miss J. Strange beat Misses O. Croxton and M. Wareham, 21-13, 21-23, 21-13. Mixed doubles: G. Smith and Miss D. Croxton beat L. Howe and Mrs. M. Haynes, 17-21. 21-11, 21-7. Boys' singles (under IS): . K. Carlton beat E. Hutchinsou, 21-13, 21-13. Girls' sindes (under 18) : Miss A. Hughes beat Miss M. Hughes, 24-22, 21-IS. The tournament, for which there were more than 400 entrants, extended over six nights. Winners of other events were:—Men's second grade singles: T. Walsh. Men's second grade doubles: N. V. Edwards and A. Ferguson. Men's third grade singles: K. Wilson. Men's third grade doubles: C. Connell and W. Williamson. Women^s second grade singles: Miss M. Page. Women's second grade doubles: / Misses L. Kramer and M. Bennett. Mixed second grade doubles: A. E. Carneross and Miss M. Bennett. Junior boys' singles (under 16) : T. S. Williams. Junior girls' singles (under 10) : Miss A. Hughes. Men's plate :L. Howe. N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP. The New fcealaud table tennis championships, for which entries have been received from Auckland, Canterbury, Otago, and Wellington, will commence next Monday night at the Boys' Institute and the finals will be played in. the Town Hall next Thursday night. An interprovincial tournament between teams representing Wellington, Hutt Valley, Canterbury, and Auckland will be held at the Boys' Institute tonight and tomorrow night. The Wellington team 'is:—E. Boniface, J. Crossley, L. Howe, W. H. Raven, D. L. Hurdley, R. Gray, Misses J. Strange. D. Croxtou, M. Wareham, and Mrs. M. Haynes.
