EPSOM HANDICAP
D. MUNRO FOR SHANNON
Rec. 11.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 5. Darby Munro has been engaged to ride Shannon in the Epsom Handicap. It was earlier reported that Munro would ride Sleepy Fox in the big mile race. Bayly Payten, trainer of Sleepy Fox, said that Munro's acceptance of Shannon as his mount should not be interpreted as an indication that the New Zealand champion would not run. Munro is the leading rider for the Payten stable, and it was generally assumed that he would ride Sleepy Fox in the Epsom Handicap should that gelding start. Payten said, however, that Munro was free to choose from the mounts offered him. Payten added that he expected Munro to ride Sleepy Fox in the Chelmsford Stakes next Saturday. "Should it be decided to start Sleepy Fox in the Epsom, I've no doubt we will be able to get a suitable jockey." The New Zealand visitors Immediate and High Play were exercised at Randwick yesterday. Both have engagements for the Rosehill Club's Meeting on the 15th instant. Immediate in the Camelia Stakes and High Play in the High weight Handicap.
