HUTT VALLEY TENNIS

The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Lawn Tennis Association held recently was well attended. In the absence of the president (Sir Alexander Roberts), Mr. F.. S. Ramson presided. The annual report and balance-sheet showed that the past year had been the most successful in the history of tennis in the Hutt Valley. The junior coaching had brought forward some very promising players, as indicated by the results of matches played with other associations. Several members congratulated the committee on the arrangements made with the Lower Hutt City Council for Ihe construction of 12 grass courts on the Naenae Reserve. The report thanked the Lower Hutt City Council for what, it was doing for tennis in the Valley, and special mention was made of the efforts of Mr. Hewer and Mr. Hutt, of the City Council, for their help in bringing the arrangements to such a successful conclusion. The financial position of the association was good. The numerical strength was 1801. It was decided to recommence the inter-club competition in all grades as run prior to the war. The following officers were elected: —President, Sir Alexander Roberts: vice-presidents, the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Petone, Upper Hutt, and Eastbourne, and Messrs. H. R. Bach, D. A Ewen, F. S. Hewer, W. G. Lodder, F. K. London, A. Marshall, C. C. Odlin, F. Stoupe, and G. Winter; hon. secretary, Mr. A. G. Smith; hon. treasurer Mr. J. A. Annear; hon. auditor, Mr. J. D. King; hon. solicitor, Mr. N. T. Gillcspie; management committee. Misses B. A. Laurie and C. Pegler, and Messrs. G. E. Arms, L. N. Biss, J. B. Darnell. B. Hamer, S. Harding, C. Johnston, F. S. Ramson, and A. Tilbury; delegates to New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. J. A. Annear, F. S. Ramson. and A. G. Smith.
