SECOND FRONT NEWS
"When the second front occurred our men could not believe it —they had been so long expecting it," said the Rev. R. G. McDowall, formerly of St. Luke's Church, Remuera, on his return from overseas recently after having been a prisoner of war. at Muhlberg, Germany. The German attitude to the prisoners gradually eased as the war progressed, he said, although there was always one group which beliaved right up to the very end that they were going to win. In the last month or so even some of the real Nazis "eased up a bit" when they saw the inevitability of defeat.
