WESTERN BEAT MARIST
Western (Christchurch) won the Chatham Cup on Saturday, beating Marist 4-3 after one of the most exciting games ever seen in Wellington. Marist were leading 1-0 at half-time and 20 minutes after the second half began scored again. Fifteen minutes before the game was due to finish Western scored their first goal and, only seconds before the end, equalised. Extra time was necessary, two tenminute spells being played. Both teams scored again during the first extra spell, but during the second, with each side playing to the top of it? form, neither could gain the advantage. Then, towards the end, a ( Marist player accidentally handled the ball and a penalty shot was awarded Western. Mallia, the Marist goalie, who played an outstanding game throughout, did not have a chance of stopping the shot. BOYS' CUP TO MARIST. The final of the Boys' Chatham Cup was won by the Marist fourth grade team, who beat Mornington (Dunedin) 4-2 after an excellent game. F.A. TROPHY MATCH. D. Nunns (Marist) has been selected by Mr. E. Gates, selector for the W.F.A., to replace D. Baker (Technical College) in the Wellington representative team which is to play Canterbury next Saturday for the F.A. Trophy. The team will report at the Technical £ollege at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday. BENEFIT MATCH. Hospital and Railways will play at the Petone Recreation Ground' shortly iv a benefit match for E. Longbottom. the Hutt player who broke his leg in the match between Railways and Hutt at the Basin Reserve recently.
