TORIES IN DISGUISE

MR. FRASER QUOTES FABLE P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 2. Speaking at a reception given in his nonour by the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee on Saturday evening, the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, said that the political forces of Toryism were donning Labour clothes and lying in the Labour bed. They represented their policy to be just as progressive, humane, and democratic as Labour's. Mr. Fraser reminded his audience of the fable of Little Red Riding Hood, and told them to look carefully for the big teeth of the impos'or in Labour's bed. "The old wolf of Toryism is ready to spring out and destroy what has been done in this country in the last ten years," he declared. Labour in New Zealand, said Mr. Fraser, had been an inspiration and a I lesson all over the world on what could be achieved in social reform. The future of humanity itself depended on the retention of the principles guiding Labour's policy. Tfte international application of Labour's principles would mean the end of war and the achievement of brotherhood among the nations. Failure to apply them internationally would mean the wiping out of humanity by the terrible weapons that science had produced. Mr. John Roberts, president of the L.R.C., who presided, said he believed Mr. Fraser was the greatest figure at the San Francisco Conference. He mentioned that in "Harper's Magazine" Mr. Fraser had been described as "the greatest moral force at the conference."

Mr. Fraser was given a rousing reception by a very large attendance, including all the Canterbury Labour members of Parliament. The guests of honour included Mr. A. Hamilton Knight, Minister of Labour in the New South Wales Government, and three New Zealand Cabinet Ministers.
