THE SCHOLA CANTORUM

The Schola Cantoram, conducted by Stanley Oliver, will give a. choral recital in the Concert Chamber on Wednesday next. This will be the society's first public programme since 1941. Tho featured item on the programme will be a new major work by one of the most outstanding of contemporary American composers, Dr. Randall Thompson. The work is entitled

"The Peaceablo Kingdom," a sequence of eight unaccompanied choruses. The composer says in a note on the work that it .was suggested to him by a painting by the seventeenth century Quaker preacher and painter. Hicks. Another composition by Randall Thompson la on the Schola Cantdrum's programme, ■ "Americana," which is a brilliant take .off on phases of American life. :
