CRASH INTO LAGOON
TWO LIVES LOST
P.A. GISBORNE, This Day. When the car he was driving failed to take a bend half a mile south of Te Puia, on the east coast road, and crashed into a lagoon on Saturday night, the driver and one of three other occupants were drowned in the half-submerged vehicle. The victims were Leading Aircraftman Harold Morrison, 24, of Rotorua, who recently returned from the Islands, and Joyce Waihi, 17, domestic, of Tokomaru Bay. Minor injuries were suffered by two other Maori girls, Hannah Toheriri and Josephine Moana. The girls escaped by breaking the windows of the car, which fell on its side.
