SIXTY MORE DAYS
Racing And Trotting
The restoration of 15 days' troU ting and 45 days' racing vyas announced today by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry). "I am pleased," said the Minister, "that the circumstances have permitted a gradual relaxation in the restrictions which were imposed as a war measure in relation to the number of permits for racing and trotting meetings in the Dominion. While it is still necessary to confine all meetings to Saturdays and statutory holidays, I feel sure that the partial restoration will be welcomed by those interested in the sport." The Minister emphasised that the man-power position and the transport difficulties did not permit a complete restoration at this stage, but said that the whole matter was being kept under constant review and that a further relaxation would be granted immediately circumstances permitted. [The wartime quota was 120 racing days and 40 trotting, representing half the peacetime permits allotted.]
