DERRYOGUE WELL

TRIALS AT WANGANUI

(Special to "The Post.") ( .

WANGANUI, This Day. At New Plymouth on Saturday K. Chote will ride Kilarney Boy, Hulabaloo, Fort Royal, and Belleroza. G. Ivil's mounts will include Good Effort Bird Tidclcss. Steady rain throughout the night and during training operations made the going very soft for the semi-final gallops on Tuesday for Wanganui horses engaged at New Plymouth. Good Effort (G. Ivil), .. who is to contest the Weraroa Stakes, had Michael (K. Chote) as a companion in a half-mile spin. Michael went off very smartly and led all the way to finish two lengths to the good. He ran the first quarter in 24_sec, and the full distance in a shade under 51sec. Michael will have his first race this term in the Seafield Hack Handicap at Wanganui. Good Effort should benefit by his outing at New Plymouth. The most impressive gallop was that of Stony Broke (Ivil), the Inflation gelding beating Kilarney Boy (Chote) all the way over six furlongs. He ran the distance in 1.17 3-5, a splendid effort under the conditions. Kilarney Boy did not show his usual brilliance, but he is very well and will probably shape better on Saturday. . . Derryogue, with a light boy up, showed too much early speed for Patta Fe, Hulabaloo, and Red Chief in a run over six furlongs. She set a hot pace to run the first half-mile in 50 sec, with Patta Fe two lengths away and the other pair well back. Cantering home, Derryogue was well clear to register 1.20. Hulabaloo and Red Chief were carried off their feet by the pace early, but they came home well. •_ ■
