"BUSHRANGING"

COUNTY COUNCIL'S ALARM OC WANGANUI, August 14. In a letter to the Waitotara CountyCouncil the Waimairi County Council (Canterbury) describes a Local Bill now before the House of Representatives as "an unprincipled 'bushranging attack by a large local body on a smaller one." The Bill is the Waimairi County Electrical Supply and Christchurch City Council Empowering Bill, 1945, which, according to the Waimairi County's letter, proposes to appropriate, without opposition,-the whole of the county's electrical, assets/valued at £130,000 (including £20,000 cash reserve) and to ' vest them in the' Christchurch City Council. The Waimairi County asked Waitotara to request the member of Parliament for the district (Mr. W. A. Sheat) to oppose the Bill. The Waitotara County Council, at a meeting today, agreed to this request. "With the passing of the Bill there would be created by precedent such a wide field for 'smash and grab' possibilities that no local body could again feel free from victimisation by predatory neighbours," said the letter. It added that the liabilities were also to be taken over, but they amounted to only £14,000. MIRAMAR GOLF CLUB ,T. Lanibie has been appointed coach to the Minimal' Golf Club in succession to R. C.
