A GREAT FIGHT

JUNIOR BOXING TITLE A five-hour session which finished at 12.15 a.m. today enabled the Wellington Boxing Association to complete its 1945 amateur boxing championships at the Town Hall. The late finish meant that many people had left the crowded hall before the final of the junior featherweight division, which proved to be one of the most stirring amateur contests ever seen in the local ring. The contestants "were Tom McPherson (Mart»n<s)3«iaJwit'Roy Tyack (Hedberg's), ■whb'J'GOMbpseia 'on the canvas together after a-thrilling set-to in which McPherson gained the decision. Many thought that Tyack had shaded his opponen^.in the first and third rounds and should have been awarded the title. Though some of the contestants were rather easily beaten, most of last night's bouts were very evenly fought. The decisions of the judges, Captain C. J. H. Davidson and Mr. W. P. Sommerville, were generally well received, but a noisy demonstration followed the verdict in the junior flyweight final, which went against a Blenheim Boy. T. Fox (Institute), who fulfilled expectations by winning the'senior middleweight title, met unexpected opposition from /J. Parata (Porirua). The senior featherweight title was won on Monday night by ;J. Cadwallader (Wairarapa), who knocked out T. Ahern (Hedberg's), the result being given incorrectly yesterday. The senior heavyweight title was won unopposed by M. Weir (Hedberg's), while W. Tonks had a walkover in the senior light-heavyweight class, as also did R.
