WAY OF GOD

ESSENTIAL FOR WORLD

"A time of further tribulation would come upon the world unless it accepted God's way," said the Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher, when addressing a large audience at Wesley Church in connection with his Christian campaign. Associated with the noted preacher were representatives of nearly all the churches in Wellington. In the course of his address the speaker stated his view that the so-called New Order would crumble like a pack of cards except Jesus Christ was the foundation of its doctrines and practices. . The war had revealed many grand nobilities of human nature, but it also showed the beastliness to which man could fall. War was one of God's warnings to the world that only suffering and disorder could result from the. attempt to fashion human society without adherence to the Christian faith. In illustration of this, the preacher referred to one of the most advanced scientific nations in Europe which had allowed itself to drift from the religion of Jesus Christ and be caught by ideologies that bred paganism and brutality. When Christian principles were loosened that nation could murder 5,000,000 Jews with scarcely a protest from God-neglecting civilisation. Those who taught the evolution of human goodness without the power of Jesus Christ in man's heart were almost committing a blasphemy. History and social life about us gave the lie to such humanistic beliefs. Man was *so base and selfdeceived that he could plead on his knees to God on the King's Day of Prayer, and then celebrate victory in drunkenness. The evangelist urged his hearers to take the Gospel way of true life through committing themselves to the leadership of Jesus Christ, who was the Divine Deliverer, crucified by man but crowned by God in Resurrection triumph.
