ARREST OF POLE
STATEMENT IN LONDON
Rec. 9 a.m. LONDON, June 10. The Polish Government officially confirmed the arrest of Dr. Jagodzinski, London editor of the Lublin Polish news agency. It described him as a reserve officer who had refused to serve in the army. Jagodzinski's leave expired on October 11, 1944. He had not replied to three orders to return and was recognised as a deserter. The Polish military authorities had approached the British police in the normal way, according to the AngloPolish agreement. Jagodzinski was arrested on.the orders of the British authorities.
The Polish military authorities confirmed that he had been taken to a prison in Scotland and said he might be released later, pending his trial. The Press Association reports that the Lublin Polish Press states that the British Home Office has already informed them that Jagodzinski has been released.
A Moscow message reports a "Pravda" statement that the arrest of Dr. Jagodzinski will produce indignation throughout Poland and among all freedom-loving people and not only against the London-Polish clique, with which he refused to co-operate, but also against those in British circles who apparently think that Poland cannot be governed without Fascists.
