Arrangements for a "Bring and Buy" afternopn were finalised at the recent meeting of the ladies' auxiliary of the Y.W.C.A. The sale will be held at the residence of Mrs. R. S. Allwright, and a large attendance is expected. Red, white, and blue flowers were used by the gardening circle of the Taita Women's Institute to decorate the hall when members celebrated YE Day. The president, Mrs. J. W. Jones, welcomed members, visitors, and one new member. The thought text for the month was given by Mrs. Draper, and Mrs. Holtz, A.T.C.L., entertained members with piano solos. The guest speaker, Major Lampson, gave an interesting talk on "Kingship." The competition winner was Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. Sage won the prize for the best bloom. Brighter Dinner Jackets. Velvet dinner jackets in plum, burgundy, and other colours will be worn by smart young men after the war, according to a London authority in an article written for the April number of the "New Zealand Draper." As a reaction against the uniformity of khaki and other service shades, brighter colour and interesting weaves will be favoured, he says. Doublebreasted velvet dinner jackets will be worn over ordinary black dress trousers, with a soft white shirt. Other types of jackets will be black with coloured lapels in silk or velyet. The influence of the battledress is being seen already in lounge suits, which are more comfortable and roomy, though with snug-fitting hips. The grace of the Army and naval great-coat will be preserved in overcoats of the Guards' type, with pleated back and half-belt. Stating that more colour will be introduced into men's day wear, the writer points out that yellow pullovers and ties and sports shirts in other strong colours are already being worn.
