"ELIJAH."
On Saturday evening, Juno fl, the Royal, Wellington Choral Union will open its 1945' season with a performance of Mendelssohn's) "Elijah." This work has been tinder rehearsal for,-, several months, under the direction .of Mr. Stanley Oliver. Mr. Oliver's coaching of the choir and orchestra has given them an artistic .conception of Mendelssohn's masterpiece. Special arrangements have been made for Mr. Raymond Beatty to come from Sydney to sustain the baritone part in this oratorio. The other soloists will be: Soprano, Miss Dora Drake, of Dunedin; contralto. Miss Mary Pratt, of Dunedin; mezzo. Miss Evelyn-Led-ger, of Wellington; and tenor, Mr. Joseph Battersby, of Hamilton. The box plan will open at the D.I C. on Wednesday, June 6.
The Day's Bay branch of the National Party will hold its annual meeting in the Parish Hall, Day's Bay, on Tuesday next at 8 p.m. Mr. C. M. Bowden will be the speaker.
