HOARD OF VALUABLES
FINDS IN TYROL MOUNTAINS
LONDON, May 25,
The Americans in the Tyrol Mountains find themselves the custodians of one of the largest hoards of valuables that ever existed, states a correspondent of "The Times" in Bolzano. It consists not only of enormous amounts of loot of every kind from Italy, but also every form of raw material used in the manufacture of arms. This was intended for the Germans' last stand.
There are eight railway trucks filled with bags of gold, the Italian Crown, King Victor Emmanuel's famous collection of coins, and 11,000,000 dollars' worth of paper lire. There are also vast stocks of precious metals, industrial raw material, and special machinery. One inventory alone covers stores worth £750,000,000 at the German estimate. Asked whether this inventory included platinum, a German official replied, "Oh, no. That conies on another list." Every one of the picturesque old castles and eyery chalet in these Tyrolean mountains and valleys appears to conceal a hoard.
