CONGRESS PLEASED
CHANGES IN U.S. CABINET NEW YORK, May 23. The changes in the United States Cabinet were applauded in Congress, says the Washington correspondent of the "New York Times." The new Attorney-General is described as conservative and is supported by Senator I Tom. Connally, chairman of the Senate! Foreign Affairs Committee. \ Judge Schwellenbach's appointment as Secretary of Labour was made outside the ranks of Labour, apparently in view of the division within the ranks of organised Labour. Mr. William Green, president of the American Federation of Labour, praised the selection of Judge Schwellenbach, and Labour as a whole, it is believed, has endorsed the appointment. . , The Washington correspondent of the "New York Herald Tribune" said all three appointees are Democrats who ardently supported Mr. Roosevelt's New Deal programme, and all are Westerners. The consolidation of the War Food Administration with the Department of Agriculture is regarded as the first major step to streamline the administration and trim the departments created in the exigencies of the war period. __________________
