TRIAL OF MIKADO AUSTRALIAN DEMAND
CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON. May 24. Australia has demanded the indictment of the Emperor Hirohito as a war criminal and his execution as the head of a State responsible for systematic barbarities, says the British United Press. The Australian demand was attached to an authenticated' report of atrocities in New Guinea, which has been submitted to the United Nations War Crimes Commission. Dr. H. V. Evatt has already decribed the report as "too horrible to publish." ' Chinese sources say that China will support the Australian demand for the indictment of Hirohito. The official United States attitude has not been re- i vealed, but it is believed that high! State Department advisers feel that Hirohito should be spared and the responsibility for the Avar placed on the Japanese military and economic leaders. Britain may be expected to support Avhatever view America adopts, but Britain believes that the termination of Emperor' worship by the Japanese is essential. .
