A man of 64 who lived in Adelaide had suffered for years from Parkinson's disease which causes spasmodic contraction of the muscles. Then he got toothache and decided to rinse his mouth with eucalyptus. He raised the bottle to his lips and a spasm of paralysis struck his arm. He tried to take the bottle from his mouth, but the paralysis held it there and before it relaxed he had swallowed nearly a cupful. He died from pneumonia following eucalyptus poisoning.
