IMMEDIATE EASILY

TIMARU CUP HONOURS

P.A. ■ TIMARU, April 28. The South Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting was held at Washdyke under excellent conditions and before a large attendance. The totalisator handled £36,043, as against £28,158 10s at the winter fixture in June of last year, an increase of £7884 10s. Favourite for the Timaru Cup, Immediate went to the front at the barrier rise and was never headed. He led Eastern Coin. Silver Sal, and Atreus in the early stages, Palfrey and Boulder Dam being at the rear, and there was little change throughout, Immediate being clear of Eastern Coin, Royal Writ, and Silver Sal swinging across the top. In the straight Sister Sal challenged, but was unable to make any impression, Immediate being untroubled to win by two lengths, with Eastern Coin following Sister Sal at a similar margin. Atreus was a head away, with Palfrey and Aurora Australis close up. In the Doncaster Handicap Bali and Green Note raced on terms to the straight entrance from Burberry and John Gay, with Lord-Advocate following. John Gay quickly ran past the pacemakers to hold off Burberry, who' had to change his ground. A length back was Lord-Advocate, with Green Note and Royoney next to finish.
