BRITISH COMMENT
Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 2«. Commenting on the Eastern Front, Lieut-General H. G. Martin, the "Daily Telegraph's" military critic, remarks that the Russians have^devoted the past week mainly to tidying up, while the Germans have signally failed to mount anything in the nature of a counter-offensive designed to regain' the initiative. ~

The Germans have reopened the road to Pillau, and it is more than ever becoming clear that Pillau is the pivot of the whole German defence system in East Prussia.
Lieut-General Martin adds that behind the front the Russian railheads are moving forward as the railways are repaired and pohverted to the Russian gauge, and.-stores 6f ammunition "and replacements "are moving up all in preparation, for the next great forward-ibound- ..: .
