WOMEN AND CHILDREN LEND A HAND

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Eec. 2 p.m. LONDON, February 26. The whole of Berlin is still blazing from this afternoon's great American raid. . The German, radio early this evening reported that another heavy force, of bombers was over the capital and had begun bombing. An hourearlier the radio denounced "the latest Allied terror raid," and lengthily described scenes in Berlin after the departure of the bombers, with women and, children "for long hours assisting the brigades to fight the fires."

Today's American raid brought the total weight of bombs dropped on Berlin to about 60,000 tons. (The Luftwaffe during 1940 and 1941 dropped about 7500 tons: on London.)"'

American pilots reported that German fighters did not appear over Berlin today and* that flak was only moderate. Most of the escorting fighters made the round trip without even seeing an enemy plane. They livened the homeward flight by ground strafing, destroying a total of nine locomotives.' R.A.F. fighter-bombers, after bombing V weapon sites in Holland this afternoon, scoured the* rocket zone, shooting up many lorries and staff cars. They also attacked bridges and railways and other * V weapon communication links, and despite heavy i flak over vital launching areas all returned.
