PICNIC FOR BLIND
VISIT TO PLIMMERTON
A picnic for the members of the Blind Club of Wellington, organised by the women of the Red Cross subcentres of Plimmerton and Paekakariki; and held on Thursday, proved a most successful function, and while better weather would, no doubt, have induced more to attend, those who braved the elements spent a most enjoyable day at Plimmerton. The secretary of the Wellington Sub-centre, Miss Lissington, was at the Wellington Station to see the picnickers safely on their way, and at Plimmerton a number of men and women, headed by Mrs. Hume, local president, were there to welcome them.
Luncheon was waiting on their arrival at St. Andrew's Hall, a good band of workers having been busy during the morning. As it was impossible to go on the beach or for a walk around the township, a programme which included community singing, had been arranged. Items were contributed by the following visitors: —Mr. Taylor (pianoforte solo), Miss Wright (accordion solo), Miss Wharton (recitation), Mr. G. Iremonger (pianoforte solo), the Women's Institute trio (Mesdames Southwood, Blake, and Bowsie) Miss Margaret Wiltshire, of Miramar, and the Rev. P. Wiltshire (vocal solos), and Mrs. Wiltshire, readings from "Green Fingers." The accompaniments were played by Mesdames Cumberworth and Hollingdrake.
Afternoon tea was served and Mrs. Hume expressed the pleasure the people of Plimmerton and Paekakariki had had in entertaining their blind friends from Wellington. On behalf of the visitors, Mr. Fullerton expressed their appreciation of the happy day they had spent.
