HORTICULTURE EXPERT
The appointment of Mr. J. P. Hudson, B.Sc, N.D.H., as horticulturist to the Department of Agriculture was announced last evening hy the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Roberts). He is at present horticultural instructor to the East Sussex County Council. In New Zealand he will fill the vacancy caused by thi-: retirement of Mr. William C. Hyde.
Mr. Hudson had high technical qualifications and wide practical experience in horticultural work, said Mr. Roberts. He held the rank of major and had given distinguished service m Great Britain as Deputy Assistant Director, Bomb Disposal. In recognition of those services he had been awarded the M.B.E. and the George Medal and Bar.
"In parks, domains, and private gardens throughout the Dominion," added the Minister, "there is evidence of#a growing enthusiasm for all phases of horticulture, and in recent years there has been progress made, in educating our younger people in horticultural matters, and I am sure this will be fostered to the fullest extent by Mr. Hudson."
