PETROL RATION

, The North Island Motor Union, at tits quarterly meeting* yesterday, decided to press again for petrol coupons fto be redeemable at full face value during May and' June and to be interchangeable in the same way as in [December and Janury. It was pointed out that there were many people who [were unable to take their holidays during the summer and who were penalised accordingly in the matter of supplies. A proposal that efforts be made to have petrol coupons (redeemable in the same „way as meat j coupons, so that petrol for any one month could be obtained in the preceding month, if necessary, was not approved. One delegate said there was usually no difficulty in exchanging one month's coupon for that of the next month by arrangement with another car owner.

: The question of the future allocation j©f petrol to private motorists was raised by Messrs. T. M. N. Rodgers (Manawatu) and F. G. Farrell (Auckland), at whose suggestion it was decided again to ask the Prime Minister land the.Minister of Supply to receive !a deputation from the union.

, Mr. Farrellsaid that all that he had iin mind was that the Prime Minister {should state what the petrol supply position was. If it was unfavourable, ithe deputation would accept the stateanent and tell the motorist members !in due course.
