PROGRESS OF CARNIVAL
FUNDS FOR KINDERGARTEN
Again last evening the carnival at Johnsonville, being held to raise funds for a free kindergarten, was attended by crowds of visitors. The 2YA Concert Party staged an excellent entertainment, and the usual carnival diversions were well patronised. Progress reports on the polling in the queen carnival are as follows: Miss Iris Smith (Southern district), 62,411; Miss Yvonne Steel (Northern district), 61,925; Miss Alison Earl (Newlands), 61,200; Miss Fat- .Jenkins . (Central), 51,162. These figures show a decided increase on those posted at 9 p.m. on Saturday. " -■<■■■ Tonight is amateur entertainers' night, and the competition to find the best three performers is open to all amateur entertainers. The items will be judged by a committee ,of three, and prizes will be awarded. Tomorrow is children's and mothers' day, and the organiser has planned a programme of special interest to mothers and their children. In the evening the Tin Hat Club will entertain.
