SIRS. J. J. K. POWELL.

THe death occurred recently of Mrs. Jean Powell, a well-known and highly-respected resident of Nottingham Street, Karori, at the age of 93. Born in Londonderry, the late Mrs. Powell came to New Zealand with her parents 80 years ago, arriving in Auckland in the ship Belgravia, a vessel of 902 tons, after a passage which took 12? days. The family proceeded to Napier, and after a short period in that town arrived in Wellington, and settled here. Mr.J. J. K. Powell was a contractor and grain and wood merchant, of Taranaki Street, and predeceased Mrs. Powell nine years ago. In their early married life Mr. and Mrs. Powell resided at Johnsonville/ and later lived on Wellington Terrace. They were members of the Wesley Church, Taranaki Street. Mrs. Powell, who was of a quiet, retiring disposition, retained all her faculties right up to the time of her death. She was known to all her friends as "Gran," and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She had ten children, of whom five are still living—Mrs. A. Jones, (Berhampore), Mrs. J. Fox (Island Bay), Mrs. L. Laurenson (Karori), Mr. B. W. Powell (Newtown), and Mr. J. C. Powell (Lyall Bay). There are 16, grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral, which took place at Karori, was attended by many friends and relatives. The Rev. Ashley Petch officiated.
