NEW APPOINTMENT

The record of Mr. John Collins, who' •has been appointed Assistant Chief [Messenger, Parliament House, in succession to Mr. W. Brown, who left recently to take up a position under the Wellington Hospital Board, includes service under five Prime Ministers.

.Mr. .Collins first joined the staff of the .Legislative Department in 1924, and apart from a short period with the Post and Telegraph Department and service in ' the last war, he has been identified continuously with Parliament House since that time. He has been ■messenger to three Chairmen of Committees of the House of Representatives, namely, Messrs. J. A. Nash, E. j. Howard. and the present occupant of the office, Mr. R. McKeen. In the last war Mr. Collins served in the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and during the present war he was a member of the National {Reserve and was also associated with the Parliamentary Home Guard unit. Two of his sons are at present serving overseas in the Armed Forces.

Before Mr. Brown left to take up his new appointment he was presented ■with a clock.
