virtually becomes President Chiang Kai-shek's right-hand man. The move is regarded in Chungking as of paramount significance. Mr. Soong is generally popular throughout China. His attitude towards the Communists is known to be moderate and his re-emergence into the limelight snoula facilitate the needed compromise towards Chinese unity.
Dissatisfaction with the fact that Dr Kung had retained this post, even after a reshuffle of Cabinet, was recently expressed abroad.
