PATRIOTIC FUND BENEFIT

The Grand Opera House was packed on Saturday night for the final performance of '•The Gondoliers" by the Armed Services Operatic Society. Many bouquets aud other gifts were presented at the conclusion of the performance, and the opportunity was taken by the Hon. Vincent Ward, M.L.C., secretary of the Wellington Provincial and Metropolitan Patriotic Committees, to express their appreciation, on behalf of the chairman (Mr. XV. Appleton) and members of both committees, of the society's splendid achievement. He specially mentioned the principals, the conductor (Capt. H. Brusey), and the producer (Mr. Cedric E. Gardiner). The net proceeds for the patriotic fund were expected to amount to between * £600 and £700.
