HELP TO YOUNG MOTHERS

Mrs. J. H. Woods, president of the women's committee and hon. treasurer, spoke on the object of the committee and expressed the opinion that if these centres had been established several years ago they would have been an inducement to young married couples to have children. Mr. Macalister, she said, had been a tower of strength to the association and had helped in every way possible to see the organisation safely and securely launched, and the association also owed a sincere debt of gratitude to. Mr.. Macalister and to the Mayor and Council for their consideration and help. Mr. Martin Luckie, who also expressed admiration for the work of Mr. Macalister, gave an interesting outline of the early days of the Thorndon district when he had attended the Thorndon School under one of its finest masters, Mr. Mowbray. Captain M S Galloway spoke in appreciation of the establishment of the Thorndon Children's Centre and of the whole-hearted co-operation of the reserves committee in the venture.
