SYDNEY, September 25. Many Australian women. married in New Guinea cannot prove they are legally married, it v was learned officially. . .
Marriage records, stored in the official files in New Guinea, have been 'destroyed by enemy action. It is understood a leading jurist will probably be appointed shortly to thrash out the problem. The circumstance is particularly hard upon some women who were evacuated from New, Guinea before the Japanese arrived, leaving their husbands behind them. ; ■
Nothing has since been heard of the husbands and as the legal documents proving their marriage have been destroyed they are 'in the '.. anomalous position that they are riot strictly entitled to their husbands' estates and fUP' 3" ■■'■.' -..''.
