The organisers are determined to get the remaining millions safely in the bag by the hour the loan closes, and are redoubling their appeals to all those investors who have so far held off.

Wellington district has £3,271,800 in hand, or 70 per cent, of its objective, leaving £1,402,000 to get in the two days. The investments yesterday totalled £243,700. Wellington will have to look busy. , ' . ,

Southland is the only district so far to complete its quota, which • was £1,531,000. The positions of the other districts are as follows:—Auckland, 91; Taranaki, 79; Gisborne-East Coast, 78; Otago, Marlborough, North Otago, each 76; Northland, Manawatu, each 71; Wellington, Nelson, each 70; Wanganui, 67; Buller, Westland, each 66; Hawke's Bay, South Canterbury, each 64; Waikato-King Country, Thames-Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Wairar,apa, each 60.

Advice was received from Wanganui last night that the Aotea District Maori Land Board was investing £19,950 in the loan, on behalf of the Maoris of the board's district. This brings the total amount subscribed by these Maoris in all war loans to £77,452. GENERAL FREYBERG'S ACTION. Lieutenant-General B. C. Freyberg, in command of the New Zealand Division in the Middle East, has made a personal subscription of £500. A message received by the. Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) contains this intimation, and also advice that the general expects to be back with his division soon. The message states: "Thank you for your good wishes. I am making excellent progress. The wound; is healed ,and. I am about again, and I expect to be back with the division in 10 days. I have just read that the Victory Loan wiM. close in a few days. Realising the importance of this I loan at the present stage in the war, I am sending you £500 to help, and at the same time wish you every success in achieving-your full amount." General Freyberg was recently injured in an air crash in Italy. During his absence the division is commanded by Brigadier C. E. Weir, who was given the temporary rank of major-general. OTHER SUBSCRIPTIONS. Additional subscriptions' include one of £40.000 from the Dominion Life Assurance Office of New Zealand.
