MR. C. L. RAMSDEN

Mr. Clifton (Cliff) Lloyd Ramsden, who for the past seven years had been manager of the Wellington Woollen Company's Mills at Petone, was found dead in his car on Saturday evening. Mr. Ramsden was the fourth member of his family to hold the position which had previously been occupied by his grandfather, father, and brother.

Mr. Ramsden was born in Petone and educated at the Petone District High School and Wellington College He was well known in sports • circles as a brilliant Rugby player, as well as a swimmer and runner. His football experience was gained entirely in the Petone Club, in which he went through all the grades to senior status as ? five-eighth. In 1911-12 he represented Wellington, playing, among other matches, against the New Zealand team. A career of great promise was cut short by >a knee injury, but Mr. Ramsden's service to the game was continued in other directions, and for a time he was one of Wellington's selectors. His interest in football was maintained up to the time of his death and not a little of it was directed to a team fielded by the Woollen Mills with which he had long been connected.

He was a member of the Petone Junior Amateur Athletic Club, and up to its disbanding through war conditions in 1914 a member also of the Petone Swimming Club.
