SYDNEY, July 27,
Some prisoners were taken when a Japanese barge 'laden with troops was sunk by Allied fighter planes and light naval units near Manokwari, in western Dutch New Guinea, reports General Mac Arthur's communique today.
Three parked planes were destroyed in a Liberator attack on Naklea airfield, on Boeroe Island.
Groups from the Eighteenth Japanese Army, which is trapped in British New Guinea, continued to probe the southern flank of the Americans' Driniumor River line, but no resumption of large-scale fighting has yet been reported.
