Twenty v -six Infants in Creche,

Twenty-six infants were cared for in the creche whilst their mothers attended the recent meeting of the Wadestown branch of the League of Mothers. This was a record number. Mrs. Wall and Mrs. Cornish, who were welcomed as visitors by the president. Mrs. Charles White, gave short addresses. Mrs. Wall's subject was "The New World," and Mrs. Cornish requested members to observe' the nine o'clock minute's silence. Six new members were admitted. Mrs. Walls and the choir entertained with songs. Chaplain Welcomed Home. The Rev. Mr. Skuse, Chaplain to the Forces, was the guest of honour at a function given by the executive members of the Welsh Society to welcome him home and to" wish him and Mrs. Skuse success in their new charge at Dannevirke. Speeches were made by the president, Mr. John Tucker, and the vice-president, Mrs. W. McLeod.. In reply, Mr. Skuse related some of his experiences abroad, one being that of his acceptance as a member of a thriving Welsh society at Bombay. It would not be a Welsh party without singing, and ; Mrs. McLeod satog "All Through the Night" in Welsh, accompanied at the piano by Mr. Frank Crowther. The party was in • Kirkcaldie and -Stains's tearoom. ..';..,.■■■ Miramar Celebration. The birthday party of the Miramar branch of the Townswomen's Guild (Dominion Federation) took place recently. In the absence of Mrs. Barnett, the chair was occupied by Mrs. W. V. Walker. Mrs. R. Semple (president) was present, and'visiting townswomen included Mrs. Albert (chairman of the Dominion'executive), Miss Bethell and Mrs. Downey (representing the area federation),.and members from guilds as far afield as Waiwhetu and -Alicetown. A presentation was made to Corporal McCarthy, a foundation member, who is taking up residence in Auckland. The programme included vocal items by Mrs. Cass, sketches by the Drama Circle, community singing, and an old-fashioned .dress parade.
