CONVERTED PLANTS

BLOW AT NAZI PLANE OUTPUT

(U.P.A. and 8.0.VV.)

LONDON. May 30.

The targets bombed in Austria from Italy included the Neudorf aircraft factory, the Pottendorf spinning mills, the Ebreichsdorf carpet factory, and the Neunkirchen spinning mill, all of which are situated around Wiener Xeustadt and have been converted to aircraft production.

Unescorted Fortresses attacked the railway yards at Zagreb, and Lightnings, returning from Austria, strafed transport and installations in northwestern Yugoslavia. Reuters ■ correspondent at Allied headquarters in Italy says that R.A.F. Wellingtons carried out an attack against a new target last night—a recently established German airfield at Fruersbrunn, 35 miles north-west of Vienna. The attack was most successful. The airfield, which, it is believed, contained a large number of fighters, was plastered with bombs. The hangars and workshops were fired. Aircraft of the Second Tactical Air Force returning from today's operational trips had to be cooled down with pails of water before the ground crews could handle them. The pilots found the heat wave intense, and although they flew in a minimum of clothing, the flying was an ordeal. The inside of the cockpits became so hot that metal fittings burnt the bare skin when they were accidentally touched. An enemy aircraft was shot down into the sea off the north coast of Scotland late in the day by Spitfires of the A.D.G.B.
