EXPLOSION IN ESSEX
* MANY PEOPLE HURT
Rec. noon,
LONDON, May 30.
The explosion of an ammunition dump in Essex shook the countryside for miles around, and necessitated the evacuation of a village. Nobody was killed, but a number were injured, largely by flying glass. Fire brigades from thirty miles away helped to fight the fires, which followed a series of explosions. Firemen worked in relays, and it was many hours before the fires were controlled. The inhabitants of the village returned in the evening, when there was no further danger of explosions.
