HARBOUR BOARDS

GOVERNMENT NOMINEES Replying to an expression of "surprise and regret" that Mr. J. H. Brunt was not reappointed to the Nelson Harbour Board as a Government nominee, the Minister of Marine (Mr. O'Brien) has written as follows to the chairman of the Nelson Fruit Advisory Committee (Mr. L. B. Robinson): "In reply to your letter of April 27 with reference to the appointment of a Government representative on the Nelson Harbour Board, I desire to point out that it is my prerogative as Minister of Marine to appoint whosoever I consider to be the most suitable person as Government representative on a harbour board. "Whilst I appreciate the services rendered by Mr. Brunt I am of opinion that sections of the community other than those represented by Mr. Brunt should have representation on the board. Mr. Brunt is free to offer himself as a candidate for election to the Harbour Board and according to your letter he should have no difficulty in remaining a member of the; board."
